[Developer Note] Real-Time Arena Beta Operations & Future Direction

Hello, this is Hyun Moon-su, Development PD of OUTERPLANE.

Among the content in our first April update, I’d like to share details on the operations and direction of the Real-Time Arena — something many of you Masters have been eagerly waiting for.

We determined that refining the Real-Time Arena based on actual play data is of the utmost importance. To ensure a stable official launch, we’ve decided to run a 2-week beta period first.

Using the data collected during the beta and your invaluable feedback, we will conduct a thorough review of the balance and systems. The official season schedule, following any necessary improvements, will be announced separately at a later date.

※ Please note that depending on the circumstances, an additional beta test with an improved version may be conducted.

This Real-Time Arena is based on cross-server matchmaking and offers two distinct modes: [Tactics League] and [Masters League].

[Friendly Match] will initially be available under Masters League rules.

The beta version does not include separate rankings or end-of-season settlement rewards.

Instead, to ease the pressure and fatigue of engaging with new content, we’ve prepared daily and cumulative participation events that can be completed simply by participating, regardless of wins or losses. We hope you’ll jump in with a light heart and claim the rewards we’ve prepared.

Our development team fully understands that real-time PvP, while exciting, can also be a source of significant stress and pressure for some players.

That’s why the design philosophy behind this update focuses on “fun and expanding options” rather than “competition.”

For players who are comfortable with PvE, we want to offer a fresh challenge. For players who love PvP, we want to provide an immersive arena to dive into.

Ultimately, our goal is to make OUTERPLANE a game where “there’s always something fun to do when you log in.”

■ Key Changes & Systems in the Real-Time Arena

Several core systems have been introduced in this Real-Time Arena.

First, to prevent team compositions from becoming stagnant around specific Heroes, we’ve introduced a formation penalty called “Discord.”

If Demiurge or certain Limited Heroes are used excessively, a debuff is applied to the entire team — a structure designed to encourage players to think carefully about their compositions.

Additionally, we’ve added a “Leader Buff” system that is selected before battle begins, enabling strategic choices that align with your key Heroes and deck concepts from the pre-battle stage.

We’ve also implemented “Arena Skills” to mitigate the issue of matches being decided on the first turn, adjusting the overall balance so that a certain degree of back-and-forth combat can take place.

In Tactics League, these effects have a significant impact, making strategic composition around them crucial. In Masters League, the impact is relatively smaller, but still requires a degree of consideration.

Furthermore, to prevent battles from dragging on excessively, effects such as increasing damage over time as turns progress have been applied. Currently, most battles are balanced to conclude within approximately 3–5 minutes.

Lastly, certain Heroes will have a “Global Ban” applied from the start of each league. Heroes whose influence is excessive in specific situations, or who create a large gap based on whether or not they are owned, will be excluded on a per-season basis.

Additionally, native 1★ Heroes are generally not selectable due to their relatively low strategic utility. We also plan to monitor native 2★ Hero pick rates during the beta period and evaluate their usage among Masters.

As the Real-Time Arena is being operated in beta form, we have decided not to provide separate in-game help guides for the detailed rules of Tactics League and Masters League at this time.

Our development team’s top priority is to continuously and rapidly adjust rules and balance based on how Masters are playing. Rather than repeatedly revising help guides to keep up with a system that’s changing in real time, we’ve chosen to focus our resources on making improvements as swiftly as possible. We appreciate your understanding on this.

Once the system has stabilized based on play data, we will prepare and deliver help guides in a clearer, more organized format.

As a Real-Time Arena being introduced in beta form, we fully acknowledge that there will be areas that aren’t yet perfect.

However, over the course of this 2-week beta period, we will work to quickly identify issues and make improvements based on actual play data and your feedback.

Please enjoy it casually and without pressure, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Lastly, we hope you’ll also give a warm welcome to our new Premium Hero, [Gnosis Domine], joining the roster with this update.

We’ve prepared a small gift so you can take on recruitment with a lighter heart — make sure to take advantage of it!

Thank you.
